MAMORU OSHII book review [nonfiction] Part 29, GHOST IN THE SHELL STORYBOARD

-----

There're some Mamoru Oshii book lists on the Internet, but they don't have detailed explanations about the contents. My Mamoru Oshii book collection is far from complete, but I'd like to write some short summaries for each of those books.

I apologize in advance for grammatical errors and misinformation.

[review]

This is a full storyboard of Ghost in the Shell. The contents table says "design sheets", but it doesn't cover many sheets. It doesn't contain Oshii's interview nor comments either.

There're not many differences between the storyboard and the film. Oshii once said that they had no extra resources to do unnecessary things in GitS.

That is pretty different from INNOCENCE's situation. INNOCENCE's CGI parts are not based on Oshii's storyboard. CGI team was allowed to develop the camera movement from scratch.

*The iconic introduction text is not drawn in the storyboard. Oshii planned to make something like electric circuits. That is similar to the original manga's introduction.

*Corgi had mechanical eyes in the storyboard. Oshii's text says, "Let's give up these eyes. They hide his facial expression..."

*The basset hound brand pet food is not drawn in the storyboard.
