MAMORU OSHII book review [nonfiction] Part 19, INNOCENCE INTERVIEWS

-----

There're some Mamoru Oshii book lists on the Internet, but they don't have detailed explanations about the contents. My Mamoru Oshii book collection is far from complete, but I'd like to write some short summaries for each of those books.

I apologize in advance for grammatical errors and misinformation.

[review]

This is a full version of creator interviews in a film brochure. It contains a lot of interviews, but it doesn't necessarily give you new information. If you have already watched the making video and read Roman Album INNOCENCE, you don't need this book.

I picked some new information from this book:

*Kenji Kawai used 130 channels for the soundtrack of the final battle scene.

*The three animation directors didn't discuss the character animation's consistency beforehand because Oshii didn't tell them to do so. Oshii said to them "You animators won't change your styles, anyway."

*Shuichi Hirata, the background art director, was once pissed off and said "I quit".

*Oshii utilized a digital film editing system called Domino. He was satisfied with the achievement of the Domino system in Avalon. That's why he used it again in INNOCENCE. However, anime usually don't need such an elaborate film editing system. Domino is needed in live-action films because film creators can't fully control the visuals on location. Anime creators can control the visual beforehand. Oshii still used it in anime because he wanted to control the final colors of the film, not the colors on computer screens.

*Oshii says Toshio Suzuki made the title by himself. However, it was made by the whole production team, not by Suzuki alone.
