MAMORU OSHII book review [nonfiction] Part 05: THIS IS THE ANIMATION, PATLABOR 2

-----

There are several Mamoru Oshii book lists on the Internet, but they do not provide detailed descriptions of the contents. My collection of Mamoru Oshii books is not yet complete, but I would like to write a short summary for each of those books.

I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors or incorrect information.

[review]

"THIS IS ANIMATION" is Shogakukan's brand of anime database books. This volume covers the design sheets for Patlabor 2 the Movie, with original character designs by Akemi Takada and mechanical designs by Yutaka Izuuchi, Shoji Kawamori, Hajime Katoki, and Yoshinori Sayama.

However, there are parts of these design sheets that are not fully utilized in the film. For example, Izubuchi designed the process of installing Ingram's body armor. Since the body armor would cover the cockpit hatch, he had to think about how the pilot would get into the cockpit. In the movie, however, Oshii did not depict the boarding scene.

[tips].
*Noah's earring was Akemi Takada's idea.
*Yuki Masami designed Yukihito Tsuge. Oshii's order was "a guy like Robert Shaw in The Taking of Pelham.
*Kawamori designed the police's strange helicopter. Oshii accepted the design because it looks like a fish.
